Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. But for a person of Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family, they had innate talents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned a Dublin business. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a great athlete and was a gruelling athlete in games when she was young. She combined this interest with an equally natural aptitude for performing. It was evident that she was the winner of every Feis for drama and theater that Ireland had to provide. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying classical theatre and operatic vocals.
